Celleration®, Inc. Announces the Publication of the Results of its Diabetic Foot Ulcer Clinical Trial

(Eden Prairie, MN) - August 29, 2005 - Celleration , Inc. announced the publication of the results of an important clinical study Ultrasound Therapy for Recalcitrant Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A randomized, double blinded, sham-controlled, multicenter study. The study was conducted in hospital based and private wound care clinics and demonstrated the increased incidence of wound closure of diabetic foot ulcers when treated with the MIST Therapy TM System as compared to a sham control. These groundbreaking new findings were published by William J, Ennis, DO, Medical Director of the Wound Treatment Program, Advocate Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn, IL the lead investigator in the study in the August issue of the peer reviewed journal Ostomy/Wound Management, HMP Communications. The study is important because of its randomized sham controlled design with wound closure as the endpoint. It represents a higher standard of clinical trial when compared to most past trials done in the chronic wound market.

The treatment groups "therapy" was either active 40 KHz ultrasound delivered by a saline mist or a "sham device" which delivered a saline mist without the use of ultrasound. After 12 weeks of treatment, the proportion of wounds healed (defined as complete epithelialization without drainage) in the active ultrasound therapy device group was significantly higher than in the control group (40.7% versus 14.3%, P=.0366, Fisher exact test). Compared to the control this therapeutic modality was found to increase the incidence and rate of closure of recalcitrant, diabetic foot ulcers.

"We are very excited about the results of this study, commented Kevin Nickels, CEO. "We believe our core MIST Technology has the potential to become standard of care when used in a wound care protocol emphasizing early intervention and wound bed preparation. We have conducted foundational research to scientifically validate our technology. We then translated that work into this prospective randomized double blinded, sham controlled trial. Cell eration , Inc. is committed to the ongoing development and execution of high quality research to continually broaden the clinical use of MIST Technology; and to provide our customers and the health care professionals well designed scientific studies on which to make evidence based treatment decisions."

Celleration's proprietary non-contact MIST Technology TM can be used on a variety of wounds including, acute, traumatic, chronic and dehisced wounds to promote wound healing. The use of MIST Therapy is an attractive technology for health care professionals since its use affects multiple aspects of a chronic wound to optimize the wound bed environment thus promoting healing. The treatment takes only minutes; it is easy to use, compact and portable, and comfortable for patients with painful wounds.
