Alan’s Story

Alan was an active outdoorsman running his own roofing company and Christmas tree farm when in February of 2002 he fell through a roof and injured his right lower leg.  His lifestyle changed considerably because his treatment required Alan stay off his leg and keep it elevated.   His healing was slow and complicated by lupus and vascular disease.  In April of 2002, his wound became infected; he was hospitalized and given IV antibiotics.  Alan didn’t know at the time this would be the first of several hospitalizations and a 7 year struggle to heal his wound.

Alan was treated with nearly every possible wound care treatment including silver dressings, compression wraps and more.  He received over a dozen grafts, more than 100 hyperbaric treatments and was seen by 3 different hospital wound care centers.  Not only was the wound affecting his activity level, but it also affected him emotionally.  He found himself expressing anger at the smallest things and eventually started on medication for depression.

Finally, in August of 2008, Alan was referred to a physician that started MIST Treatments and his wound measured 6″ x 3″ at the time.  By February of 2009, his wound had completely healed and he was able to return to some of the activities he loved, like fishing.  “I boated all summer long,” stated Alan. “I could jump in the water again and not worry about getting my dressing wet or hurting my leg.”  Less than 7 months of MIST Therapy Treatments were able to accomplish what nearly 7 years of other treatments could not.
