Michael’s Story

Michael was only 32 years old when he was diagnosed with diabetes.  Sixteen years later, he has undergone multiple surgical procedures, including two partial amputations of his feet due to complications caused by his diabetes.   In 2009, Michael developed a wound on his right foot that led to an infection in the bones.   This required his first surgical procedure where all of the toes of his right foot were removed.  Unfortunately, due to lack of blood flow and poorly controlled diabetes he had to undergo another surgery to remove the dead and infected tissue from his surgical wound.  After this surgery to “clean up” the wound, daily MIST Therapy treatments were added to Michael’s wound care plan to help reduce the bacteria in the wound and to speed the rate of healing.

Within a few weeks of starting MIST Therapy treatments, his wound was filled with healthy granular tissue and after only 6 weeks the ulcer was completely healed.  This eliminated the concern that additional amputations of his right foot would be needed.

After the wound was healed, Michael could get around better and he became more active.  Michael stated, “When I had my wound, I was down and depressed, but MIST Therapy helped me feel better.”  Unfortunately, in early 2010 Michael developed a wound on the left great toe that also developed an infection in the bone needing amputation.  He has been treated with MIST Therapy for 4 weeks since the surgery and the wound is 70% smaller!  Michael is confident he will heal with continued MIST Therapy treatments and be wound free one day very soon.
